Board Chair Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and visionary individual to join our team as Executive Board Member and Board Chair. The Board Chair plays a pivotal role in providing strategic direction, governance oversight, and leadership to the organization's board of directors. This volunteer position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the organization's growth and success.
Responsibilities include:​

Strategic Leadership

Provide visionary leadership to the board in setting strategic direction and long-term goals for the organization.

Ensure alignment of board activities with the organization's mission, vision, and values.

Governance Oversight

Lead the board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including establishing policies, bylaws, and organizational procedures.

Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and uphold high standards of ethics and integrity.

Board Development
-
Recruit, orient, and develop board members, fostering a diverse, skilled, and engaged board that can effectively fulfill its duties.

Facilitate board meetings, set the agenda, and ensure that meetings are conducted efficiently and effectively.

Relationship Building

Serve as a primary liaison between the board and the Executive Director, maintaining open communication and fostering a collaborative working relationship.

Build positive relationships with stakeholders, donors, and community partners to advance the organization's mission and goals.

Financial Oversight
-
Review and approve budgets, financial statements, and major financial decisions in collaboration with the finance committee and/or treasurer.

Ensure sound financial management practices and prudent stewardship of organizational resources.

Advocacy and Representation
-
Represent the organization externally, including at community events, fundraising activities, and with key stakeholders.

Advocate for the organization's mission and interests, raising awareness and support for its programs and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership experience in a non-profit, corporate, or community setting.

Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus and inspire others.

Knowledge of non-profit and/or corporate governance principles, financial management, and legal requirements.

Commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a passion for making a difference in the community.

What does the commitment look like?

Quarterly virtual general board meetings, approximately 1 hour
-
Accessibility between monthly meetings for one-off questions/inquiries
-
Willingness to reach out to personal and social media networks to promote organization events and initiatives
