Hey TRUE Change Family,
Spring is in full swing, and at TRUE Change, we're buzzing with excitement and fresh achievements. This April has been packed with inspirational events and pivotal discussions, all aimed at empowering our youth and community members. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
Events & Impact
We kicked off the month at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, GA, where we met with over 500 9th graders for an assembly after Spring Break. Our goal? To fuel their drive as they push through to the end of the school year.

At the Fayetteville Youth Summit, hosted by The Tulsa Initiative, we joined a panel discussing the crucial roles of mental health, emotional intelligence, and career readiness in young adults' success. Sharing personal stories and experiences, we reached over 250 students from Cumberland County High Schools, sparking important conversations about future aspirations.
Our Executive Director, Kam Phillips, joined R.O.O.T.S. Mentoring as a guest speaker during their “Real Talk” session and tackled the complex topic of cognitive dissonance. Together with parents, students, and community members, we explored how it affects our lives and strategies for overcoming it.

Our breakout session at the Health Minds, Stronger Schools Conference, hosted by the Durham Public Schools Foundation, was a hit! Attendees gave us a perfect score for engagement, which speaks volumes about the relevance and impact of our workshops.
We delved deep into the nexus of education and mental well-being, impacting educators, students, and community members alike.
Welcoming New Leadership
We are thrilled to announce Marvel Myrtile as the new Chair of our Board of Directors. With a robust background in investment banking and as CEO of MediMatrix, Marvel brings a wealth of experience and a servant leadership style that will undoubtedly propel us forward as we continue to scale our impact. Learn more about Marvel and the rest of our team.
We are currently expanding our board of directors and now accepting applications for new members who are passionate about driving impactful change. If you believe you or someone in your network could be a good fit, please review the application here.
Upcoming Events
Looking ahead, we are excited about our collaboration with Gwinnett County Government, hosting multiple workshops for over 90 student interns focused on career readiness and emotional intelligence.
The Empower Gwinnett Government Internship Program, formerly Career Starts Here, is Gwinnett County Government’s summer internship program for youth ages 15 to 21. The four-week paid internship program offers Gwinnett’s young people an opportunity to gain valuable, real-world experience. Interns are provided the opportunity to explore their passions, get hands-on experience, and develop leadership skills through workshops and on-the-job training.
