Hey TRUE Change Family,
May has been a month of dynamic growth and exciting new ventures at TRUE Change. From career fairs to empowering workshops and international mentorship, we've been busy igniting change and fostering leadership skills in young individuals. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to and what lies ahead.
Events & Impact
On May 2nd, we had the fantastic opportunity to engage with the bright young minds of over 400 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Seventy-First Middle School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Career Day was a vibrant forum for students to explore various career paths and envision their future possibilities.
On May 11, our Executive Director, Kam Phillips was invited to share a word of encouragement and spend time with The Enrichment Academy program of Brother’s Making Moves, a non-profit movement for young males, that provides enrichment activities, mentorship, educational support, career skills development, and social justice advocacy to the community.
Partnership with Local Government
Throughout May, we partnered with Empower Gwinnett, Gwinnett County Government’s summer internship program for youth ages 15 to 21, to in a series of career and life skills workshops. TeCori Elder-Scott and Kam Phillips led sessions, including “The Power of Connection,” “Protect Your Energy: Workplace Wellness,” and “Values to Vision: Elevate Your Path,” which provided invaluable insights and tools to help interns excel both personally and professionally.
Students who participated attended Georgia Institute of Technology, Augusta University, Kennesaw State University, South Gwinnett High School, Meadowcreek High School, Peachtree Ridge, Georgia Gwinnett College, and other educational institutions. Of the students who completed the survey, 100% agreed "This workshop helped me clarify my career motivations, mission statement, core values, and action-planning skills."
